This is not a private party. With growling throats, purring and humming hearts, Laumulistasamsteypan embarks on a mission and we've reserved a seat for you. Our journey begins in Hrísey, Eyjafjörður, where eighteen artists enjoyed a ten-day rendevouz under the energetic presence of Kaldbakur. The mountain, which towers over the island, is described as Iceland's spiritual throat-energy point. With Kaldbakur in the rearview mirror and research of seer Erla Stefánsdóttir in our glove compartment, we now arrive to Reykjavik fully charged with throaty vigor.
OPEN is our final destination. Here, we explore the frequencies and energies which surround, envelop and flow between living beings and natural phenomena. We focus on the throat and the cascading effect of sound. Visitors are invited to shape the fluid progression of a performative art piece with their own energy field, decision-making and intuition.
Jump on in, take the wheel. Laumulistasamsteypan is our ride.
Location: OPEN, Reykjavík
Welcome to Laumulistasamsteypan’s grand exhibition called THE JEOPARDY. The collective has gathered on the island working on the construction for months. However, the weather has not been kind and the long Icelandic winter has suddenly stretched out into the early spring. The roads are blocked with meters of snow and the wind has blown every trampoline off the island and into the sea. The ferry is loaded with icicles and nobody can travel to or from the island. The exhibition is therefore in jeopardy and all the hard work the artists have undertaken is about to go to waste since nobody can come to witness these extraordinary works of art. But do not despair, dear visitor, the artists of Laumulistasamsteypan will not leave you hanging! Since you cannot approach the artworks we shall bring them to you wherever you are. The radio tour of THE JEOPARDY will inhabit not only the homes of the Icelandic nation whose doors are frozen shut but squeeze through every faraway speaker, airpod or car radio it can reach.
The Jeopardy is an exhibition adapted for radio by 16 members of the Laumi Hat collective.
Location: Palanga Street Radio, Vilnius
In August 2019, 18 artists from around the world spent two weeks together at Laumulistasamsteypan, an annual summer camp for artists on the island of Hrisey, Iceland. Organised around the theme ‘The Jester at the Round Table’, the artists got straight to playing, devising games to structure artist collaboration and co-habitation, and to generate new artworks. On Hrisey, the municipal pool was at the centre of activities, mediating layered social interactions in capacity as swimming baths/ village hall, with wifi, free coffee, and fastidious hygiene rules. The artists visited daily. Rarely a place for swimming, Middlesex Presents… ‘The Jesters Pool’ is a portal to Hrisey, and a slippery response to the 2019 iteration of Laumulistasamsteypan residency for the Art Licks Weekend. Followed by the Jesters at the Pool Party at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, 9.30pm-12.30am.
Location: Middlesex Presents, Art Licks Festival, London
LET’S TAKE TEN
We juuuuuust sat down actually..
A 6 day coffee break with Laumulistasamsteypan.
It’s almost starting, we’re about to do something miraculous in just a second, right after this cup of coffee. Just one more sip and that’s it. Let’s drink up and prepare for it. Everything that happens right after the break. It’s gonna be crazy, you know - when things get rolling. But not yet, first we’re gonna brew some coffee and gather strength. Get into the right mindset, you know, and calm our nerves. Incredible invention this dark-bean-brew. People didn’t know how to take breaks until coffee was invented and there was something productive to hide behind during breaks, because the idea of sitting down without an agenda would be absurd - downright foolish. Then there were people that didn’t drink coffee so they invented the cigarette so they could also take breaks. It’s important not to take it too easy, you see, never to be completely idle.

When you wake up in the morning with sea on the left, sea on the right, sea at your back, and far ahead, you must be on an island.
When there is always someone knocking at your door when you're peeing, and your shoes already left the house without you, you must be with a lot of people.
When green fabric keys out holes in the landscape, and its too bright outside to see whats on your screen, you must have signed up for a pretty unrealistic reality-show.
"What makes islands so nice is that they are usually surrounded by bodies of water.”
