To celebrate Laumulistasamsteypan’s 10 year anniversary, we looked at the registry of (rupture and space-)time - how time is measured, logged, remembered, preserved... We marked a moment in time to look forward and back on 10 years of friendships/self/collaboration/sharing/making. What did we yearn for in 2014 and what will we be whispering in 2034? Through a week of foraging, cooking, eating, drawing, swimming, sewing, poetry and singing, we arrived at our 10th Birthday Bash with a triple flag raising ceremony at the Hrisey swimming pool.

Hi. I’m Laumulistasamsteypan, my friends call me Laumi. You can call me Laumi. What are you looking for? A shoe? Your keys? The harbour? Love? The way home? The snow on top of the mountain? The secret hot spring? Pylsa? The whales? The chickens? Have you ever lost a sock in the dryer? Are you lost? Or have you been found? Did you find yourself? Sorry, was that too personal? Look! These are the things I have found:

Kaldbakur is one of the most prominent mountains in our island view and we used that as a starting point. Kaldbakur has been described as the spiritual throat-energy-point of Iceland and for our project Anthems of the Windpipe we shifted our focus to the throat - in all its dimensions. Drawing from the energy research of Erla Stefánsdóttir, we embarked upon a throaty journey.
The throat as mountain
The throat as communicator
The throat as shape
The throat for breathing
The throat for storytelling
The throat as energy point
The throat as a river
The throat as a pathway of consumption
The throat for humming
The throat as a fire breathing machine
The throat for yodeling
The throat as connector

This year we want to isolate one important factor from Laumulistasamsteypan’s toolkit: the game. Designing games for any decisions, discussions or actions that need to be taken, we will actively integrate games into every aspect of our stay in Hrísey. A game system for laying the table, a board game to determine discussion topics during breakfast, a larp game for the walk to the studio. Diving into the format of the game, stretching it, reducing it, applying it to different kinds of interactions or situations. Researching the limitations and facilitations a game can offer as a structure for thought and communication.
A game as creative thinking process.
A game as a rule breaker.
A game as game changer.
A game that is specially designed for a jalapenos farmer named Tweety.
A game as telepathic communication.
A game as a music producer.
A game as a debate podium.
A game that strokes your hair and sings you lullabies.
A game where the pawn has all the power.
A game that makes you hate the system.
A game disguised as breakfast.
A game that does all the hard work for you.
A game of the size of an island.
At the jesters’ round table everyone is equal and everyone is simultaneously the fool and the mastermind.

After a year of booming schedules and multiple events, Laumulistasamsteypan needs a deceleration. On that account we introduce: THE YEAR OF THE PENSIVE SLUG Laumulistasamsteypan’s slug team consist of a small group of people that have already taken part in Laumulistasamteypan’s journeys before. This group of experienced Laumies have now gathered for a pensive stay in Hrísey, focused on reflecting on Laumulistasamsteypan, what it is, what it can be and what it does to and for its members. It will be a self-obsessed navel gazing where no end result is expected and no exhibitions or open days are necessary. We propose a 10 day stay in Hámundarstaðir: reading, thinking, talking, speculating, printing, goofing, sharing, cooking, writing, hiking, sea-swimming along with a whole lot of anonymous voting, love letters and morning rituals and accompanied by a printer as a form of studio space.
Participants: Borghildur Tumadóttir, Helena Solveigar Aðalsteinsbur, Sara Björg Bjarnadóttir, Sjuul Joosen, Susan van Veen, Ástríður Jónsdóttir, Arna María Kristjánsdóttir, Á. Birna Björnsdóttir.
When you wake up in the morning with sea on the left, sea on the right, sea at your back, and far ahead, you must be on an island.
When there is always someone knocking at your door when you're peeing, and your shoes already left the house without you, you must be with a lot of people.
When green fabric keys out holes in the landscape, and its too bright outside to see whats on your screen, you must have signed up for a pretty unrealistic reality-show.
"What makes islands so nice is that they are usually surrounded by bodies of water.”

Yes hello, is this Laumulistasamsteypan’s information center? Through binoculars I see a man wearing a neon-orange anorak. He sits high in a tower and makes sure everything goes according to plan. Two women with multi-colored hats, sitting on a rooftop, wave to me as if they’re famous. As I walk on I hear a low whisper from that guides me past a blue crater, onwards to the camping grounds. At the community centre a grumpy musician plays the same note over and over again as the sound engineer shakes his head repeatedly, there’s obviously something going on here. A person wearing a red west measures the ceiling height and a busy-looking woman moves a framed painting, millimeters at a time. Just how famous is this band that plays here tonight?
